Excellent point. Over the lifespan of the vehicle, these hardware upgrades might pay for themselves. There are many low cost things that can be done to improve fuel efficiency. Maintain proper tire pressure. Remove the luggage rack and keep the exterior clean and waxed. Keep the windows rolled up. Drive the speed limit. The X acts like a brick at high speeds. All of this is sort of a killjoy but like you said, this is the wrong vehicle to be concerned about gas mileage.
Everybody has their own reasons for why they bought an X. I'm sure nobody's primary reason for choosing an X was fuel economy and saving the planet, etc, etc. You could buy a VW Jetta TDI for that purpose.
Ethically, you probably should be concerned with gas mileage. There are a few X owners out there (on other Explorer forums) with reported numbers of over 30 mpg. They have spent a considerable amount of money to upgrage their rig. So the return on investment could take awhile depending on how much driving you do. With that said, your origional question can be answered by doing a search for "mpg improvements" on the forums.
i dont want improvement my mpg - im just asking if that stuff i put in will improvement my gas mileage- b/c some ppl told me that it will make my gas mileage decrease.
i really dont care how much it will improve - gas is cheap here (1.95/gal) i just want to know if it will make it batter- i dont care how much - i just dont want it to decrease- if it will stay the same - thats good 2
