Gas Mileage with f250 V10?

I had a 99 F-250 XLT SC short box, auto SD w/ the V-10. Best unloades milage I EVER saw was 12.2. Mostly around 11.8. 70/30 highway town, highway @ 70. With the 29 g tank, best I every went was 350mi.
The 03 6.0 PSD XLT SC long box, 6-spd, gets 18-19 in the same conditions, will hold a 6-7% grade @ 65 all day (towing 7k #s). At 62, towing it gets 14. @ 70, 11.
And it uses Bio-diesel, which is the best thing you can do for homeland security, your truck, the environment, & the economy.

Other than a lighter foot, properly inflated tires and clean filters, not much really. Some on the forum suggest the 5star tune and maybe different gearing. But, even those theoretical gains take a LONG time to justify the expense based purely on increases in gas mileage (there are other reasons for the 5Star tune as I'm sure you may know)
The reality is you have a big truck with a big engine.

My '04 gets 12-ish in town, 14-15 freeway only at about 65 mph. Raise it to 70 or more and the mileage drops. These things are not very aero-freindly at all. As for all the crap intended to raise your mileage, I say save your money. If there's one conclusion I've come to in three years of reading all the "sure-fire" mpg aids, I have realized there isn't one. However, I can say with all certainty that driving with mileage in mind absolutely will pay off. My wife drives my truck, it gets 10 mpg, I drive the same truck it gets 12 mpg. That's over 20% better in the same truck just by not driving it like it was a sports car. There's no magic fix for making your V10 truck more fuel efficient, but by concentrating on all the little things, like tire pressure, driving habits, keeping 1,000 lbs of crap out of the bed, don't put big tires on it and so on it actually gets good mileage for what it is.
