Am upgrading from stock 6.80 od damper to TCI Rattler damper 7.17 od.
Anyone familure with this damper and is there any problem with this larger size?
Also, I have a 4 bolt hole 3 grove crank pulley. The TCI is a 3 hole design, can a guy just drill it out for the 3 hole?
I need to know this too, Just had all my stock pulleys powdercoated, went to mount the crank pulley, and its a 4 bolt. The TCI Ratler only has 3. I called Summit today, they were dumbfounded as usual, and basically told me that Ford never made a 4 bolt pully for a big block...even though the ones made by March are 4 bolt, and I had one in my hands stamped "FORD"...idiots. So I called TCI, same thing. I have two big block fords, and both have a 4 bolt crank pulley on them, so what the hell does everybody do about it? And what 385 series vehicle uses a 3 bolt pully? The best answer TCI could come up with is to use a crank pully from a GM or Chrysler product, IF I could find one to fit. I can't drill out the factory one as it is a 3 V pully, and the two sections are spotwelded together so I would have to drill out the welds- not gonna happen. I am without a clue here HELP!!!!!
Dragging up some oldies I see bmarkline LOL. only 4-1/2yrs
But with that let me say the following
Personally the rattler is a cute gimmick and I wouldn't waste the high cost of one. Look to a good stock style dampener, you won't see the TCI unit on very many race engines.
For an in-expensive but very good dampener I have run the professional products SFI dampeners (they are a stock style but approved to handle 10,000+rpms which is sfi specs) But even the non sfi units are pretty decent.
Also they are the proper 4 bolt pattern instead of using a small block chev pulley like the tci.
and anyone that questions them I have seen a lot of race engines with them, mine has been on the engine 6yrs and turns up to 8000rpms constantly with zero issues
Yeah I am dragging up an oldie. Figured I'd do that before trying to start another one about the same thing Problem is, I already have the rattler on my motor, and I bought it about two years ago so now I can't return it either. And whos gonna want to buy it from me if no pulleys fit it? If I would of known this then, I would have done something else, but too late, so now I have to make it work, and I know I can't be the first in the world to ever buy one, so what now?
Oh, thanks, I'm no good on abreviations. Yeah this sucks, makes me really wonder why TCI would still make and sell a product that they have to by now know doesn't fit. I mean I can't be the first one to ever buy one of these right?! they've been selling them for years!
