I just got the truck today. It needs to be restored from the floor up but anyway currently it has a 302and trans out of a '72 mustang in it. My question is, I have the option of going and getting the original 360 and trans that came out of it before friday. Im really not for sure what the deal was with it,(I do know it had like 250,000 miles on it) but should i worry with going and getting the set, for maybe a later rebuild?
And second it has a Explorer emblem on the glove-box door and came with factory air. Any info on this particular model will help alot. And also will any 67-72 F-100 body parts swap? I know I need a drivers side window and windshield. Thanks for the help
thats what I figured, but I was wondering what is better for overall truck performance, the 360 or 351W? I have access to both engines.
The 351 is a better, lighter engine. More modern design with a lot more parts that are easier to obtain. I like the old FE`s but have gone with the 302 in my 69 F100. Most 67-72 parts will interchange.
Ive been told by some that I should rebuild the 302 thats in it. Do you like the performance you get from yours? Im just wanting a good running truck that will get fair gas mileage but still get up and go if need be.
If you're after mileage then forget the 360. Although it's a good stump puller 10 mpg is tops for mileage - but it'll get that mileage overloaded to the hilt or empty. If you're after a total restoration, I agree with the above post about retrieving the original engine, other wise forget it.
FYI any windshield from a 67 through 79 will fit your truck.
I would build your 302 up. I have a 302 in my 68 F100 that is one of the quickest motors I have ever built. Lots of power and decent gas mileage.
