5th wheel consideration

I have a 1970 F250 Camper Special...Rebuilt 360 .030 pistons, Holley 650 4bbl and Edlebrock manifold, rebuilt C-6 with trans cooler, 3.73 limited slip differential. The truck's max GVW is 6900 Lbs. I would like to pull a 28-30 foot 5th wheel next year. My questions are: 1. What should the weight of the 5th wheel be? 2. What other (if any) modifications can be made to the truck to increase the towing capacity? Right now I'm looking to move the 5th wheel twice a year. Once to a lake for the summer and back to an RV park for the winter. Thanks in advance for any and all inputs. Jeff

Nothing you add to the truck legally increases the towing capacity. Your best bet is to get the truck weighed fully loaded with passengers and fuel. Subtract this from both the GCWR and GVWR and you have the numbers to work with. With a GVWR of only 6900 lbs you aren't looking at anywhere near a 28-30ft fifth wheel.

GVWR is gross vehicle weight rating, the total amount your truck can weigh, passenger, fuel truck, gear ect. GCWR is the gross conbined weight rating is the total amount your truck and trailer together can weigh. hope that helps out. your GVWR is low compared to trucks today. your trailer might be on or over the limit of your truck.
