How do you kill these things !?!?!!? Any home made killing solutions or something? I dont want to go making the kerosine thing I mentioned in another post, not just yet. Ive heard that burning old oil will kill them(along with anything else in the woods !!) Aside from burning the woods down, I dont know what to do. Im NOT goin to spend all that mula for those fancy things to kill them. Anything will be appreciated.
Eliminate breeding areas as much as possible is all you can do to avoid spending money. Make sure there is no standing water like in buckets, kiddie wading pools, or old tires or stuff like that. If you have a pool or something you are out of luck. Also if you live near a heavily forested area, there is nothing much you can do. Honestly, I prefer the good old fashioned bug zapper. They don't cost that much and you can get them at farm supply stores. Good luck.
Encourage bats and birds to nest on the property. If you have large standing water, you need dragonflies. They kill more skeeters when they are both in the water larva stage then when they are adults.
Most bug zappers etc that draw the critters are best used to draw them away from your area. If you place them close to you they will draw the bugs past you from their hiding places or into your area and they will stop off for a "snack". I think they figured out that std bug zappers do not attract mosquitos. With the CO2 generators you have to figure in the wind directions also. They will only draw them from down wind.
The "natural" way to eliminate the pests are the best. I will be glad if they figure out a nice way to make them extinct but that would probably cause other ripples in the food chain...
If you're sitting on your porch or deck, get a fan and direct its air flow so that it's blowing on you. Mosquitoes can't fly in breezes greater than 3 mph, so with the breeze from the fan, they won't be able to get to you. I've been doing this for several years now, and it really works! I have an old 14" pedestal fan that can oscillate, and it works great. The breeze also helps cool you down too.
Go to Wal-Mart and get one of those bug-zapper things that looks like a small tennis racquet and it takes batteries. Now when ya get home...put the batteries in and go running around your yard swatting it everywhere....

Yep, bro-in-law has an old attic fan that he build a box around... hid it on one end of this fabulous deck he has and it turns SO slow you hardly hear it, but MAN - it puts out some wind !
