i live in florida and i got an 85 f-150 and i want to lift it and put it on tractor tires and i want to know what all i should get for this to happen i can install it all myself and money isnt that big of a problem just nothign way to crazy. i was told to get like rockwells and a few other things i just wanted to get some opinions. like what tires and all the good stuff i need to get. as of right now i just finished my 460 which should be kickin about 580 hp and like 615 lbs tq thats what i plan on putting in there.. thanks alot all help is appriciated.
Sounds like you are on the right track with the 460 and the rockwells. What tranny do you plan on running? If auto, I'd choose a C6 with an NP205 transfer case, if manual avoid the factory ford 5spd and go for the ol 4spd.
How tall of a tire (inches) are you looking to put on this? Also, is this truck going to be strictly offroad or are you planning to have a set of street tires too?
With that motor I wouldn't go bigger than the tractor tires that run around 53-54". The upside is that you can go with the 2.5s, rather than the 5s. Be prepared to put about $1500 into the C-6. If you don't have a builder for the auto post up and I'll give you a link to a good one. Since money isn't an issue, it will be pretty easy to do what you want. Have fun.
I was thinking the same thing Pro, but I don't know that his engine would even turn a 50"+ tire that well. Then when you throw in the extra weight of the rockwells you've got a problem. I've been trying to find more info on smaller tractor tires, like 42-46" that could have a rim adapted to run on the 8 lug 1 ton gear but so far haven't had much luck . . . need to go to Firestone and talk with them.
Also, don't know what transfer case you've got right now but if it's not an NP205 you should definitely look into it. Otherwise you'll be stretching and breaking chains!
For a tire in that size and can fit an 8 lug rim, look into Swather tires. They are at least 20 inches wide and can range from 42 to pver 50 inches tall, and they come in a variety of tread options. Also you should have no problem running 56" if you run rockwells (something like 6.30's to 7.50s can't really remember). 580 hp will push more rubber then you realize.
Some of us in my area run tractor tires on our race rigs, there seems to be three ways to run the tall ones(24 inch rims or taller) 1-cut out the existing center and weld in a center from desired wheel 2-cut out the entire center and have new ones laser cut. 3 fabricate some type of adapter.

Well, it won't be a barnstormer but it will spin them in the mud. All the torq that motor puts out helps, as well as the gearing he will have with the rockies. That combo would benefit from more motor for sure, but what he's got will do.
That, of course, would be hella-cool Betcha he's got the motor set up with the wrong compression to drop a blower on though. But if the comps not too high, man, that would be the way to go.
I take it you guys didn't read the "**** for mud guys" thread. Here's a link to follow..you may even get some ideas for tractor tired mudders. Lotta cool Fords there too.
Lots of awesome tractor tired Fords there at Ocean Pond. I just need to find someone who can setup rims for them. I checked for those Swather tires but couldn't come up with much of anything in my searches. Mustang, you got any links for them? I was really interested in Idio's talk of a 44" tire that could fit a 16.5 rim but never heard anything back. They were a fraction of the price of boggers. It would be cool to have a set in the back and just throw them on there when you get to a bog.
Off the top of my head i couldn't tell you a site other then to take a look at the firestore and goodyear sites and look in the agriculture sections of the sites. Other than that you would have to go to a tire dealer and give them a size (tell them what the tires are off of and that you want some). I'll post up the size of the tires on our swather (both in metric and inches). I know that off the top of my head that they are at least 42 inches tall and 18 inches wide.
i got the np205 and i have a 4 speed i was thinking 50 inch tires. this all should work together the motor would turn them and the gears in the rockwells help alot so i think it wont be to bad of a problem. this truck is going to be strictly a mud truck trailored to every place we mud at except the mud hole thats a block away...
