head casting issues - cam/intake combo
i have a 79 460 bored .030 over. its in the process of being built. i have heads that were ported before i got them. i took the heads to a good head shop and the guy there said they looked as if he had ported them himself, which may be true. oddly enough, the castings have been completely ground off. whats the best way to figure out what heads they are. im guessing measuring some kind of liquid and filling up the combustion chambers till i reach a set number then match them with a casting that is similar. if theres an easier way let me know.
next issue...when i got the heads i also got a edelbrock torker 460 (old style i guess). i took it off the engine and looked at the runners, they are very tall and very skinny. the guy at the engine shop said they were horrible for hp but would make godly torque. im more after the hp area due to my application. im slapping my 460 into an 83 mustang gt. so....i figure the engine will make more than enough torque for me to worry about. heres the meat of this section. i have a comp cams 280h. ive heard some say that it is too small for a BBF and some say go with an XE cam from comp cams. i just dont know. what i want to know is what intake would go best with that cam. does anybody have a 280h. if so, what intake are you using with it. im just trying to figure out all this stuff so i dont have to tear my engine apart when im not satisfied with its performance. i want 500hp and 500tq or better. thats not asking too much out of a 460. heres my parts so far
79 block .030 over
crank turned 10/10
ported heads (unknown casting)(no roller rockers yet either)
forged rods/pistons
comp cams 280h with lifters/springs..etc(kit)
msd 6al
mallory unilite distributor
accufab 2" primaries 3 1/2" collector headers
all the rest is typical misc high performance stuff. nothing crazy, just run of the mill aftermarket parts
