Hey Guys , can you help me? Wobbly shifter in a 5 sp 85 BII. I have a good spare shifter assembly however, the mounting plate is different. Can anyone tell me how to remove the plastic stablizing bushing. A quick answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. b2man
I had the same problem w/ my 87 b II 2wd. I had to buy a new shifter assembly through FoMoCo. Go to your local dealer's parts dept and get them to order it for you. Mine cost $112.00 I think and it was well worth it. Hope this helped.
I think this is what you want.
If you have the Mitsubishi Five-Speed do this:
1. Remove the plastic insert from the shift ball. Warm the ball with a heat gun to 60-82 degrees C (140-180 degrees F). Knock the ball off the lever with a wood block and a hammer, taking care not to damage the finish on the lever.
2. Remove the rubber boot.
3. Remove the bolts retaining the shift lever to the transfer case adapter and remove the lever assembly.
If you have the Mazda Five-Speed do this:
1. Place the gearshift lever in the neutral position.
2. Remove the boot retainer screws. Remove bolts attaching the retainer cover to the gearshift lever retainer.
3. Pull the gearshift lever assembly, shim and bushing straight up and away from the gearshift lever retainer.
4. Cover the shift tower opening in the extension housing with a cloth to avoid dropping dirt into the transmission.
I hope that this can be some help.
