My parking brake doesn't work on my '94 E-150 Club Wagon. I often pull a trailer and hate putting that weight on my transmission.
My mechanic installed a new front brake cable and now it's worse than before.
He says I need a new 'control assembly' -- that ratchet gismo, to the tune of $280. for the part alone.
I don't see anything wrong with the ratchet assembly, other than the fact that it doesn't seem to pull on anything.
This mechanic is generally very good, but I'm hoping for some second opinions before I shell out $350.+
By the way how come we have to call it an emergency brake, here in Canada? We have to make parking into an emergency I guess.
Hey Matt, This mechanic would never do something like that -- way too responsible.
I'm taking back in to him tomorrow -- see if I can get a better read on what's going on.
I hate not having a parking brake. God didn't build BC flat.
So, the mechanic tells me that the parking brake works by using two opposing springs to keep the tension adjusted. And the one in my $300. ratchet-end is worn out. Dam.
So I've had him order another one.
Gone are the days when you could use a wrench to fix something.
