Does anyone out there have a truck with the late '70's ford manual 3 speed with overdrive? It looks exactly like a Toploader, but I guess it isn't. I'm looking to convert my '79 from a C-4 to a 4-speed. It is a 2wd street truck with a 302. Has anyone used this transmission, and if so, have you had good results?
I had one in a 77 F150. I was running a 1970 2bbl 390. It was in nice shape when I put it in. Started making noise in a week and was totally dead in less than two. The np 435 would hold up much better but wouldn't have OD. An AOD would give you OD.
I've had that transmission in a few trucks.
It was AKA the Clark OD. Iron case toploader with a really long iron tailshaft
and uses a transmission mount for a auto transmission.
They all have chrome shift levers and shifters made by hurst
Shift pattern:
R
-13
-2OD
their only downfall is they all like to pop out of second on decelleration.
Holding the shift **** when you let of the gas in 2nd becomes instinct after a while
I'm thinking about putting one behind a 360.

i suppose mine was ready to go anyway, and the strain of towing an 1888lb trailer across Texas did her in. even though a 1978 f150 351m w/rv cam and 3.50 axle should handle that weight...
