The shop i work at has a 01 F450 and a 04 F550, neither one has ever left us stranded in the field, much less break anything, and the majority of their time is spent on lease roads or driving through fields to get to pumping units.
Just got to be careful and service the hell out of it.That's why I own Fords, there is nothing out there that has as simple components under her as a Super Duty. Now the new 05 coil suspension,I just will not comment on it just yet.
II was luckt to find a 1990 F450 4X4, these are very rare has a FI460 with a C6 it also has 1600.00 of new tires on it and picked it up for 2000.oo. Had a deck on it but is just a C/C, the engine has a broken valve and a hole in #8 piston, The only computer in the vehicle controls the fuel system and thats it. I have found a complete cab from a 1986 XLT sweet interioir on the 86's the last yr of the nice ones, i have to extend the frame to get my welding deck n it and another 12" won't hurt to accomodate the extra cab. Will be ready for the switch over by the end of march and the cab will have all the toys. Cost to completely rebiuld wil under 15000 including paint. This is far btter then 52000 for a new one and will out last a new Ford in actuality it will be the last truck i put under my welding deck. MY 1976 has served me well but its time to move into the next generation. I went with the FI so i can put comand start for the winter. It should ride fairly smooth oce the deck is on the old welding truck with deck weighed in at 11400 pounds.
