I have a problem with my 2000 suprduty F250 4x4, when I turn the ignition off there is still power being supplied to the system which leaves the heater fan running and power to all rudundent systems.
Is there a separate relay that controls overall power to this part of the electical system? and if so where would I find it since I have pulled out every relay that I can find and the sysytem is still getting power.
Does the power stay energized continously or does it go off when you open the door? I was surprised to find thats how the radio worked in my '02 F350. The radio stays on after shutting the truck off & removing the key, but shuts off when I open the drivers door.
It sounds like the ignition switch is going bad and not turning off the power. There are points in the switch that turn the power on when you turn the key, it may not be breaking those points? Just an idea, hope this helps
Does this happen after a rainstorm? Water leaking from the windshield has caused this problem on F150, Expedition and some Super Dutys. Water gets into the fusebox and GEM module. I have seen some later models with multiple electrical key off problems too with a bad Central Security Module but I believe your 2000 predates the Central Security Module vehicles.
Ok, there are no leaks in the vehicle and yesterday for no aparent reason it chose to die completely, absolutly no power to anything short of the truck phone hooked directly to the battery after a heated to call to Ford which was no help what soo ever, I pulled the positive posts had a coffee and a smoke reattached the positive posts and low and behold we had power again, another interesting probled is I had the G.E.M. changed and the dinger stayed on, so I pulled the module out to silence the dinger, while the G.E.M. was out I figured what the heck lets see if it starts, Not only does it run but runs as well with out the gem as it does with it in there whats up with that?
Another problem it has right now is with the antilocking brake system, should locking brake pedal system because on three occassions when I have tried to apply the brakes I can not push the pedal down, one has to quickly turn ignition off and then back on to aviod an accident. Perhaps this would be a good thing if its a complete right off.
I have taken it to 3 diferent ford stores but they have told me if it has no codes there is nothing wrong with it.
No more new fords for me my truck is directly related to my income, I stay with the old models nothing newer then 1990. At one time ford biult a good vehicle but trucks are meant to be worked, you can put all the computer crap you want in a car fine, but lets get the trucks back to basics something that can be fixed even when they crap out in the bush. Te frase " get it towed to a ford service centre " doesn't work for me specially when they really have no idea when it comes to the computer on these trucks also at 240.000 kms, I had to completely rebiuld the front end at a coct of 3000$ this is unacceptable. Thats only 150ooo miles. My friend 1998 chev Z71 has 485 thousand kms and hasn't touched the front end or the motor or even changed a ujoint finally had to do a trans but works everyday right beside me, now which vehicle do you think I guy should have, one thats going to make you money or one that cocts nothing but money to keep it going in the last 3 wks I have had to dump 5200$ into it to get my money back out of it I have to keep it for another 5 mths. I don't think it will run trouble free for another 5 mths.
I have several fords, 1976 welding rig, 1978 sc 4X4 long box 1986 fullsize bronco all very good vehicles but somewhere ford dropped the ball on the new ones, a road boring contractor i use alot recently purchasd 4 F350 super crews all of which have had to have new engines put in them, if a person is using the truck just to cruise around i'm sure they are ok but when it is part of how you earn your money they are leaving the industry short. My ole weldin rig has 185000 miles on her and still works everyday haven't had to put anything in her except the odd tune up brakes and tires and of course lots of gas.
Don' t like the idea of havin to change but you can't beat the price on those new hemi's a chip and 3 inch exhaust they got some torque behind them.
Also if a person couldd get some kind of interst from ford would help but I'm sure they look at it as well it just one complainer so why worry whats one unhappy consumer,
I have a total P.O.S. Dodge - with severe problems that Dodge has shown no interest in admitting or fixing - that I would happily trade for your "piece of crap Ford."
They all have some sort of problems. The first line of defense for customer satisfaction is the dealer. It's hard to find a really good one and it doesn't matter if it's Ford, Chevy, or Dodge.
