2002 EXPLORER XLS
I Just bought this truck and I like it alot but
I didn't realise the xls doesn't come with the third seat.
Does anyone know if it is still possible to install, its exactly
the same as the xlt. ??

Congratz on your purchase! I bet the IRS sure is a welcome change from the leaf springs like I have on my 2k. More room in the back = More cargo and people to load up in the back 
. I would bet that you still could add a third row seat. I wouldn't see why not. Goto the dealer and ask them how much a third row seat is. I think you can just slide the third-row seating in. If not, they may fold down like my second-row seats do, and then it may be a more PITA to install, but definitely worth it. I wish my Explorer had third-row seating. Have fun with the truck!

I checked this out when they first came out, and for some reason the 3rd row seat is not offered as an option. Don't know if there is some physical reason (shorter or narrower space), or just plain marketing psychology. There are 3rd party vendors who sell them, if you've got a grand or more to lay down.

The 7-passenger Explorers have a different 2nd row of seat than in the 5-passenger. The way it is designed, I wouldn't think it could be done. Certainly couldn't hurt to ask. Either way, congratulations with your new X. Enjoy!
