Here's an update, I found out that the method in that post won't work for my truck, so, I unplugged the box that the bell chime comes from, that box righ under the ac controls, the bell chime shut off, but the radio memory circuit was also broken, does anybody know which wire gives power to the bell chime? I suspect it's the green one, becuase it's the only one by itself, but I want to make sure.
Yeah, I read about you doing that in another thread. I finally figured it out though, I feel a little stupid because the solution was right under my nose...or ac unit rather, the bell chime thing is right under the ac unit controls, and all I had to do was unplug it, everything still works fine
I would love to find that horrible bugger on my 96 mazda b2300. I've been unable to locate it. It's so loud, that I could leave a key in and hear if someone opens the door while I'm in the house.
Can't you just pull the steering collum cover and cut the grey wire that goes to the key-locktumbler? Since this wire gets grounded when you put the key in,if you cut it or pull it loose from the tumbler it will think the key is not in the ignition. (color may be different on your model but there is only one wire going to the key lock-tumbler ). Be sure the wire you cut or take loose isn't touching any metal or it will still chime, key or not.

Reason: More info
on mine i just pulled the connector off the box that had the noisemaker in it, didnt affect anything but newer trucks may differ. i had a '87 astro once that the chime would go off for no reason while driving down the road. since then, disconnecting the door ajar/seat belt/headlights on chime is one of the first "modifications" i make when i get a "new" vehicle.
yeah, it's pretty simple on older vehicles, just unplug it from the noisemaker. On newer vehicles I guess you can just figure out how to remove the key cylnder and just unplug and wrap that wire. the link in the first post in this thread has instructions, specifically for an explorer
I found mine using a 2 foot long hose. I attached on end to, yes my ear. I found the sound coming from behind the radio. Pulled it out and removed a small circut board on the left of the opening. The buzzer is soldered onto the board. I de-soldered it and hung it from my mirror. I call it my "No-Bell Prize"
If you could figure out how to remove the key cylinder you could just unplug and wrap that wire...does anybody here know how to do that? I couldn't figure it out
