Got my eye on a 2001 F-150, 4.2 5sp 4x4, in great condition, and low miles. Just kinda curious if they will typically nickel and dime ya to death, been driving gm for last 5 yrs, hate to get a pain tn the.....Thanks
I ordered a '97, when the new style came out in '96. Total redo on a vehicle, thats always a bad time to get a vehicle. Before the bugs are worked out. No longer have the truck, but other than a couple minor items, it was totally dependable. It was a Lariet, F-150, 4.6, auto, 4 x 2. If it gave that kind of service, fresh out of the box so to speak, can't imagine the 2001 would be much different.
I also went to Ford trucks from GM early in the 90's.
Had a 2000 4.2 regular cab 2WD with a 5 speed. No problems.
Now have a 2002 5.4 supercab 2WD automatic. No problems.
In my opinon, if you are going to do off roading or hauling, the 4x4 with a 4.2 might be a little underpowered, better off with a 4.6, or 5.4 V8.
