1951 f-2 - rear fender question.

1951 f-2 - rear fender question.
Hi...i have a 1951 f-2 truck that the previous owner modified and put a short bed on it. He installed 1953 rear fenders. I would like to keep the short bed but put f-1 rear fenders on it (i like the look of these better). Will these f-1 fenders fit? You can look at the truck in my album. Thanks.
Any help would be appriciated.

Rich,
I agree you should be able to bolt 51-52 F-1 fenders on your truck as long the the bed is 51-52...which it appears to be. Those and a new set of running boards would look nice on your truck. I've seen a few 48-52 F-1s with 53-up beds and fenders on them but prefer the 48-52 beds and fenders. I don't like the big wheel wells either and will be using F-1 fenders on my 48 F-3. I assume the frame was shortened on your F-2 to make the short bed fit. I will also be doing that to my 48.

The F-2 rear fenders are narrower than the F-1 so, if you mount F-1 on a shortened F-2 box, which is wider than the F-1, the fenders will stick out farther. You will have the opposite problem if you use F-2 fenders on the narrower F-1 box, the fender lip will be farther in, most likely rubbing the wheel.
If you use F-1 fender on your truck I think it might look a little odd because the front fenders are F-2 with the larger openings and you still have the larger F-2 wheels all around. You might have to enlarge the wheel opening on the F-1 fenders to make everything look even.
Another thing to concider, the box you have has smooth sides and if you use F-1 fenders you have to use fenders from a late 1950 and up, the '48 to early '50 box has a raised panel on the side and the fenders have a knotch to accomodate it. The F-2 boxes from '48-52 have the raised panel.

The only problem, I see, with using F-1 fenders on the rear is that the wheel openings may look a little out of place when you compare them to the front with the wider opening. That is why I mentioned having to widen them a bit. My neighbor has F-2 front fenders on his '51 F-1, with F-1 rears, and the truck looks pretty good. The front end looks like it's sitting a little high but not bad. I just think if you use F-1 rear fenders over the F-2 wheels it might look out of place, like the rear of the truck is dragging. Just my opinion. Other than that, I think you could use them without a problem, you just have to make sure the wheels won't rub on the wheel opening. I don't know if the rear axle is the same width on the F-2 as on the F-1. I have both but unfortunately, I don't have them in the same location to compare. I am sure someone out there can tell you.
Good luck.
Good luck.
