Am I getting flashbacks or what???

When I got my truck last month i drove it like an old lady, tring to sqeeze every mile from the fuel tank.........got 9.9MPG
This last tank I desided to just drive the darn thing and have a ball, and to my suprize this morning......HOLYSh*# batman......I got 11.7
WHat the heck is going on here? This was all city driving except for a ten mile hwy drive.........did that 10 miles make this must difference?????
Or does this engine just do better when its drivin like its meant to be drivin???
The only other thing I did to the truck was to drill 6 1 inch holes in the fiberglass just in front of the airfilter intake so more air flow.......I doubt that made this much difference but who knows...Im happy as a clam now.
