Testing Fan Clutch?
When it is hot outside and the AC is on my trucks fan clutch makes excessive noise over 2000 rpms. It is not a abnormal sound but I was wondering before spending the $200 for a new one if there is a test to check the integrity of these. I know on My BMW that if you can spin it freely for one revelotion (like a wheel of fortune spin) then it is bad. My PSD will spin only 1/8 - 1/4 turn where my BMW spins about 1/2 - 3/4 turn

The only functional test for the fan clutch is that it makes noise when hot, and doesn't make noise when cool. And it's OK for it to make noise when first started in the morning, but not necessary. Sounds like it's fine to me so long as the clutch doesn't wobble around too bad or leak out its fluid all over.
