I have a 1960 f100 9inch rear that was given to me. It has an axle shaft in the drivers side that is way to short. Does anyone know what the length is supposed to be? Is it the same as the pass. side?
Thanks
Gary
Ford made some 9" housings that had off-set carriers, but your's should be equal lengths. A quick measurement from the axle stub to about the center of the pinion will let you know if your's is centered or offset.
The axles you want are about 30" inches from the face (where the wheel bolts on) to the end of the axle, OR 28" from the outside of the bearing to the end of the shaft.
Make sure to check the spline count on the end of the axle (passenger side). They should be 28 if stock, but there are 31 spline axles the same length out there.
Thanks, I'll have to make a trip to the junk yard and start digging. Went there today and the axles are literally in a huge pile. Saw alot of 9 inches though.
