Question replacing a motor

Hello I need some information, I have a Bronco 11 (89) and it has a 2.9 in it the lifter are bad and wanting to replace the engine or repair and the main question is, is there a better motor to use in this and one that the transmission will work with (and wiring and sensors) or is this the best motor to use like to keep it a 6 cyl. if there is any information on this please reply its in mint condition just loud lifters and oil pressure drops when warmed up. thank you

A popular swap for this engine is a Ford 4.0 liter engine.

No matter which engine you swap in you'll need the electronics/wiring. I would go 4.0.

dont you need a 4.0 bell housing to do that.
why not just replace the cam and lifters, I'm pretty sure it can be done with the engine in the vehicle

4.0 bellhousing is the same bolt pattern. It can be purchased new and/or rebuilt. I don't know of any place that is better than the other. There are tousands of places all over that you can buy these from. You can also buy a used truck that has a rebuilt engine and tranny and swap over the whole thing as once. If you get a 91-94 Explorer, you can even swap over the rear and front axles.
I wouldn't use the stock tranny. It can be used but it won't last very long due to the extra amount of power from the 4.0. Just swap over the 4.0 tranny as well. It will be a total drivetrain upgrade.

What motor?

Well ok I'm tring to decide what size motor to put in my b2.I'm really fine w/ the 2.9 power that I had,but everybody thinks goingto a larger motor is better.I use my b2 moderately on trails road etc.So would'nt I be fine just putting in another 2.9? I have a manual tranny so I think that helps w/ the smaller motor.More advise needed from you guys I found a used 2.9 in the paper for 200.00 dollars and could be back on the road. Thanks for your apinions guys!

Big or small?

hate to double post but forgot to mention that the other reason why I like the 2.9 is GAS MILEAGE.I bought my b2 just for saving gas because it gets to expensive to drive my super duty around all the time, that and the b2 is fun to drive!Any comments please?
