Thumbs up Found my size.

Found the right size I want in a Super swamper finally. Unfortunatly it's a thornbird. http://www.trailquest.com/tires/ss_thornbird.shtml

So just a few questions

Wheres the best place to buy em for the best price? I'm not sure about the net as shipping would be costly.

And how long should they hold up for mostly highway driving?

Would 4.10 gears be suitable for a set of 33" with an OD tranny?

These tires look badass but have heard not so good info on them, I'm just glad to have found the right size I was looking for, I don't wanna go with 12.5" wides cuz my rims are only 7.5" and I'd hate to replace them, and this should also cut back on radius arm rubbing.

thanks guys.

ive run thornbirds before and in my opinion they are great for offroad and getting groceries the big ***** on the side will grab the side of a rut or log or what ever and help you get right over also im running LTBs on my offroad toy and they are great except they wear out way too fast in my opinion

they werent made to be an all out mud tire like a bogger or tsl but they are very good for offroading AND driving on the street if you keep them rotated and aired up right i've seen them last over 40000 miles

I'm looking for a 33x11.5r15, the thornbird is the only one I can find in that size. 40000 miles you say? that's pretty damn good. I'm gonna pick a set up then.

Wheres a good place to get em, online or at a local dealer?

Just curious, what size are you looking for? I'm assuming 33x12.5x15, but I'd pick up some coopers b4 I'd buy thornbirds.. Most people around here don't like them very much, and for the price, you can get a MT tire in 33" size for about $120-150 a tire locally.

4.11 gear with OD would be great if you already have them installed in your truck. if you are going to swap gears, I'd go directly to 4.56 gears since you have OD.

I say if you have an O/D USE IT!!! If you had a 1:1 top gear 4.11's would be good if you do alot of mixed driving, but with the O/D go AT LEAST 4.56's. If I had an O/D I'd have 4.88's in my truck right now. This is of course like bremen said, if you're doing the gear swap. If you have 4.11's now I'd keep them , but i bet you'll rarely use O/D on the highway.

I looked in your gallery but coudln't tell by any of the pictures if your truck is 4wd? If it is stock it will have 3:55 gears at the lowest, and if you are re-gearing go with 4:56s or 4:88s.

Thornbirds are good looking tires, but are not very good. I ran a set of them on my 95 crewcab for quite a while(35x14.5-16.5). On the plus side, they wore REALLY well and besides the minor cupping, you couldn't tell I had upwards of 10,000 miles on them. They get SUPER NOISY when they get a few miles on them, however, and they easily out-db my Ground Hawgs. I can't say they're worth their weight in the mud, either. A friend of mine runs mud-bogs and tried my T-birds in the 35-under class and they caked up faster than a 2 year old at his birthday. Don't get the idea he runs a factory pickup either....it's set up for the mud with a 700 HP blown 489. I guess the only good thing about them is that the side lugs make the tire look really aggresive and cool, but the highway manners and mud performance leave a lot to be desired. Oh yeah, up here in the snow THORNBIRDS ARE LIKE.......I can't even think of an analogy for that one. They are bad.
