I have a '98 Explorer that my headlights stopped working at the same time. The parking lights still work and when I pull back on the dimmer switch I can flash the high beams but they will not stay on.
It did this a few weeks ago and I turned the high beam on then back to low beam and the headlights stayed on, but now there is nothing. I am going to replace the headlight switch today. I don't know if this is it or not. If anyone has experienced the same please let me know whow you fixed it. Thanks.
My '98 Explorer headlights did not work once and the park lights did.
It was the hi-lo beam adjustment switch position. I think I may have
bumped into it and knocked it into a position to stop switch contact.
I realize it is an old posting, but I am experiencing the same problem with my '96. I changed the headlight switch and I still had the same problem. How were you able to solve the problem? My guess is that there is a relay somewhere that I am not aware of.
Got it! The culprit was the multi-purpose switch on the steering column. Boy - it would have been so much easier if I had known the multi purpose switch could also wipe out the headlights. Replacing the headlights switch was a bear and it proved not to be necessary!
