well i have a 1995 explorer, and i have been trying 2 find out about how to disable the beeping in the door when the doors open and the key in the ignition, well i found the box up under the dash and found the Gray cable in it that connect to it, but it has so many wires in the conector, so when i unpluged it i saw that the overhead lights didnt work so i figured that was tied into that conector but what i want to know is what is the wire in the conector that make the beeping part work what color would the wire be in a 1995 explorer and could i just cut it to disable the beeping?? PLEASE HELP!!!
If you disable the door ajar circuit you will also lose dome lamp operation. Key in ignition chiming can be stopped by cutting the wire that comes from the clockspring to the ignition lock cylinder.
I just pull out the key cylinder and remove the connection, tape it up and push it behind the plastic shroud. That way should anyone ever want to reinstall it they can.
Turn your key cyl to run position, look underneath the key area you should see a small hole in the plastic cover approx 1/4 in. diameter. put a small pick into the hole and you should be able to feel it push up against a spring and ball. Push up and pull out the key cyl. Remove a small black plastic piece with a brass contact on it. Tape up the brass piece, replace the cyl. and your done.
ok man thanks alot ill try that tomorrow, can you tell me if i will lose anything else in the car, like will the over head lights stop working if i do this, or will everything work fine?? THANKS
