I have a 99 Explorer XLS with only 24,000 miles on it. Well last week the tranny decides to go out. So I take it in and I finally get it back yesterday(Monday) and this morning(Tuesday) I drive it to work and my O/D light starts flashing and my Check Engine light comes on. Also, it is shifting like *$&*. It isn't shifting right to say the least. So I took it back in with some choice words and they will probably have it for another week. I hate to say this but I don't think I will own an Explorer again. I had a 1995 Explorer XLT before this and it had major problems in the rear axle of the vehicle and other engine problems. So I have owned 2 bad explorers. I always buy my Explorers with the Extended Warranty. Thank goodness I did or else the new tranny would have cost me $2800. OUCH!
They also are not the most comfy ride out there. Why don't they install better shocks on it when it comes from factory. My rental car, which was a dodge dakota(2002 4 door, really nice) rode like a cadillac compared to my Explorer. That is sad.
Update on my explorer. I had to take it back again and there was a bad speed sensor in the newly installed tranny. Now it finally runs again like it is suppose too. I am happy again with my explorer. They are a good vehicle I guess and I like all the room in them.
