So...

Im a new member here. I just wanna get your alls input about the 6.0. Im primarily a diesel tech at my dealership working on mostly 6 liter buy backs from Ford. And trust me, Ive seen it all, lol. Im curious to know what all is being done to these trucks so I wont be so clueless to why some things are breaking that maybe shouldnt. Anyway, just sayin hi and hopefully get some input! Thanks,

Justin

Like chips, are you using a piggy back type or programing? Just curious there since the pcm is sealed and there isnt much room between the connectors and the battery on the driver side. Is there any real free mods like on the 7.3 where you used to be able to plug off the waste gate vacuum line, etc. I couldnt think much of a way to do anything to the turbo since if the vanes stick wide open for full boost they run like crap. Anyway, thats all I got for now. But I do know monday Ive got a early build Excursion and F-250 that the motors will have to come out of. Best I can tell the cranks are bent! But hey, its job security and Im not complainin! lol

If you see 8 melted pistons and beat up valves...
You have the following scenario...

Running down interstate at 135 mph...shooting a half gallon per minute of methanol and water into the intake, with an SCMT, altogether running about 40 lbs of boost---blown head gasket, and melted engine trying to limp it home.

You didnt hear it from me

To my knowledge none of the chips or programming (except 1) has caused any problem with the engines.
You can find out all you want to know about 6.0 failures on the "Problem Mileage Thread." Spend a couple of days reading the 1,100 replies and you will have a clear understanding where the problems are.

I would be interested in knowing how you came to the conclusion that the cranks are bent on the Excursion..We are trying to learn too.

It is nice to have a professional on the forum. I'm sure some of will have questions from time to time. Welcome!

I am confused, not hard to do...I know.....but why do you work on buy backs...thought they were bought and .... sent "back" to the...well some where.
So what really happens to them.....

Scjfox-We don’t run chips here, it is against Ford’s Warrantee policy. Just kidding, glad you have stopped by and hope you stay, as you are probably a wealth of valuable knowledge we could use. Myself, I have not chipped and will not chip until my 5yr/100,000 warranty is up, I don’t want to take any unnecessary risks, but there are users whom have chipped and can probably help you out.

My 6.0l, 5,000 miles and only issue is a belt that chirps. I thought it was the idle tensioner but Ford believes it is the belt and I’m on a list to try a new LOT of belts they are distributing to owners experiencing the Chirp. No complaints though, does not affect drivability and I know we will eventually get it fixed.

Again welcome aboard and we will be as helpful as we can and hope you return the favor…Deac

Well, if I ever get caught up with the 6 liters, Ill go back to heavy engine work on gas motors, lol. Well, the trucks dont get sent off to never never land, they get sent to I think about a dozen dealers via RAV (Reaquired Vehicle Unit). Depending on where it was bought back from depends what dealer it gets sent to for repair. I see alot of ones from kansas, missouri, OK., texas, etc. And PSD, that one prolly wont make it to my dealer, otherwise Id go ahead and get a motor coming, lol. On the Ex. I did every test you can do concerning engine performance far as a miss would go. Basicly it feels like a pretty bad vibration or miss, but the miss is ruled out. I took the belt of the front and ran it, no luck, swaped balancers with another truck and no luck.

I used a tool I have to measure hz and rpm on vibrations and it matches crank speed exactly. I know because of that it cant be a flex plate or a converter just because the speed wouldnt match. But neways, enough babbling, lol, waitin for the hotline to have me pull the motor and tear it down so they can ship me a new one.

Oh, incase you guys wondered, in most cases so far, trucks under 20k International has sent me a complete turbo to oil pan and wiring harnass for ones with bad internal probablems! Well, guess I should go now. Thanks for the welcomes guys!
