On my 92 explorer i was starting to get rust in the rear wheel well on the drivers side, part of the metal accually came off, and in a few other places (rear hatch on the bottom, in some of the doors around and in the door frame i wanted to stop it before it got real bad my explorer still looks brand new) i did not want to go and fix the rust the way you should by cutting the old metal out and welding new in. So i researched a little online and came accross this product called Rust Bullet at first i did not believe what they were claiming decieded to try it, and was surprised it did everything it said it would and more, i have no more rust and the rust that use to be soft and brittle is now hard like the other metal. Its real ez to use just brush it on or spray it on, two coats needed. I put mine in all the wheel wells and were ever i had tail signs of rust. I then bought some touch up paint spray and painted over it looks like new cant even tell i once had rust, and in the wheel wells i use some under coating spry over the rust bullet, i would recomend this for a quick cheep and ez fix to stop rust on your car.... Heres the site to buy it at http://www.itkillsrust.com/
Oh yea be sure to wear gloves and old cloths b/c if it gets on your skin you cant get it off you have to wait for it to wear off, which takes a week plus,
No am not, just satisfied with the results and i know the first gen explorer has some rust problems figured it could help some people out in stopping the rust with out putting a lot of time and money in to repairing it.
I do appreciate the help. Going to get some of this. I have small amounts of rust on the left rear rocker panel, and on the bottom of the right rear door. Thanks again....
Thanks for the info. Just ordered mine online. I too am experiencing rust in exactly the same spots on my 92 Explorer. Just curious, what color is it when it dries up?
Its grey... but either go to your ford dealer or local auto parts store with your paint code and get a bottle of touch up paint (not with the brush you want to spray it so it blends in better), i went to ford first they did not have my color in stock so i just went to advanced auto parts got a can of dupli color that was my paint code and it worked great. my explorer is red it took about two to three coats of the touch up paint for all the grey to disapear, then i took some fine rubbing compound (3M) and just went around the whole area that blended the rest of it in you cant even tell that i touched it up now. Everyone let me know how it turns out.
I followed exactly what the directions on the can said to do and applied the paint twice with a few hours in between coatings. Looks like that did the job
You were right on the ball, thanks!! BTW, I did manage to get some of that rust-prohibitive paint on my fingers.
