well heres the deal..body shop has been working on my rear tailgate today, about 3 manhours on it, basically the locks/rear window motor/assymbly were frozen..i had already pulled the assymbly and motor, and the window now was a "manual" with sticks-the rear tailgate wiring has no voltage..guessing its the common problem where it breaks as it goes into teh tailgate
now..they tried to get it open..took out stuff, took the rods out..they were bent to hell, i couldnt get the tailgate open by pulling on the rods with 2 people..i dunno what the hell it will take to get them out
i called the guy and he said they can try to cut the latch thigns from the inside so they can get hte tailgate down
he said 2 would be easier and 1 would be hard to get to..and if they couldnt get it theyd need to cut through from the otuside to get at it?
so..what should i do? its going to get worked on tomorrow too..hopefully will get done, but damn bitc...err, woman that owned it screwed it up hardcore..locks dont work worth a ****..rods bent like hell in the passenger side....and the tailgate is just screwed
anyone else had this problem, or know what i should do? im dumfounded..i really dont want to drill or cut holes in my tailgate..also dont want to screw anything up..any hints suggestions and tips completely welcome
Well, you seem to be in quite the situation. Its hard to understand whats going on, not being there, but I might suggest a few things. First, look into Kano products, they make a whole load of rust remover and metal "freeing" products. I know several reputable people that swear by the stuff. I would apply this from as many different angles as possible into the locks. Then find yourself or create a metal rod that can be put in place of the original ones (the ones that open the locks), but make its long, and with some type of handle or grasping mechanism. If you let the Kano stuff sit for an hour or two then haul on it, you just might be in luck. The only other option I see would be cutting into the locks with a die grinder, splitting them in half and just tearing them to pieces. You would need new locks, but if done with care and patience, the gate would probably not be harmed. Don't know if any of this really helps but best of luck and post back with results!!
