Question Carb problem

Got a 71 F-250 with a 300-6. The carb was all apart, which i didn't do. I have it all back together now kinda. There is a spare part i have no idea where it goes. It is 1/4" long rectangle made of brass. i have no clue what it is.

no, it's not a fitting....

I remember seeing something like this the last time I had my 1 bbl apart, but since it's had a four barrel for the past year, and I don't have access to the old carb, I can't help you anymore, other than to *bump* this post.....

Edit: If memory serves, I think I recall seeing something like that just sitting in some little passage in the carb when I had the top off. I think it was loose, just like a restriction of some kind... but I could be totally wrong.

There is a part as you describe in the idle circuit (think that's what its called). Just rebuilt my YF recently and I remember a little brass weight which sat on top a ball in one of the holes.

I have a diagram, but no scanner at home right now. Someone recently posted a link to a YF diagram on line over at fordsix I think. I assume that you have a YF.

Were you really able to reassemble it with no diagram? If you did, you are a GOD!!! I rebuilt mine (well, one of mine -- I have two YF carbs), and the rebuilt one ran less good that the other. So, so much for my rebuilding skills. But the carb I rebuilt was a real junker, so I guess it may not be all my fault, and everyone says that rebuilding your own carb is the way to go, as compared to buying "rebuilt" ones from parts places.

If you want, I can use my scanner at work, but it may be a few days.

later...
