i have had 2 chips from western diesel the first was a tri power chip and it also threw the mpg way off. around town it said i was getting 22-23 mpg, WRONG, and even one year on my way up hunting i was pulling a trailer with 2 atvs and a bunch of other grear, we also go over like 3 or 4 passes and it said i was getting 19 mpg not even close. i now have there new quad power chip and my computer is right on now(about 15 mpg around town). i think (in my case) they did someting in the 1st chip to make the mpg read higher on the computer so the customer would think "wow look how much better my milage is with this chip" but i am guessing they got alot of complaints and found out we could do basic math, so they took that programing out

No one is programming is a false mileage reading. It has to do with the way the mileage computer calculates the mileage. It simply gets thrown off by the fueling changes made by a tuner.
