Should I check DTC's before using Superchips 1715

I just got my new Superchips 1715 for my '96 F150 5.0 today. Would it be a good idea to check for any trouble codes before I use it? I was also planning on checking the timing with the spout unhooked , I think its supposed to be 10 degrees BTDC anyone know for sure?

not for sure about the timing. but as far as the tuner goes, i have loaded tuners in diesels and gas at my place of work and never checked for dtc's before hand. the tuners have always loaded and the customer has always been tickled pink. the only difference in loading on a gas is that you have to pull the fuel pump fuse if memory serves me correctly. have loaded more diesel that gas, as i am a service advisor in a diesel repair shop.

the 1715 will clear the codes when loading the new program, read them first. its supposed to be 10 degrees BTDC with spout disconnected.
