Black adjustable cable under steering column?

I was doing an install of an alarm when I noticed this cable that kept getting in my way. It has this adjustable wheel on it and has a white line coming out of it tied under the dash. Does anyone know what it is? Thanks.

Sounds like the indicator cable/adjustment for the automatic transmission display. The little thing that tells you what gear your in, D,R,N...etc.
