Mine has been on for 2 years. So I went and got 2 new o2 sensors and the other sensor near the catalytic converter. I cleared the codes and drove about a 1/4 mile with the new sensors. Check Engine light was back on. Had it checked again, came back o2 sensor bank1 was bad. No way that sensor is bad. Any ideas?
my cel stays on with 02 sensor code stored, egr sensor code stored. replaced evrything that dealt with it. cel came on the next day. solution: runs like a scalded dog, 17 mpg, no bucking or jerking. black paint over the cel light. light stays out now
I've had the abs light come and go. It's mostly off, so I won't bother for a while. The check engine light came on, so I bought the OBD II scanner on sale for a hundred. P0113=high voltage IAT sensor. No Ford dealers in the area have one, so I'm practicing trouble shooting this sensor till the part comes in. It's only $30. at the dealer, so I ordered the part. I erase the code with the scanner, but it keeps coming back on. Sometimes I get a few days till the light comes back. I'm beginning to enjoy playing with this scanner. Glad I bought it.
I had the chek engine light come on in my 1999 f150 a bunch, after the pro's scanned it many times and around $1,000 bucks later it was found to be simply the spark plug wires. Hats off to those good old professionals.
My check engine light has been on for so long it's pathetic. I took it to Ford twice while under warranty and they told me it was running rich on one bank, causeing the O2 sensors to foul. They replaced them twice and within a week, the danged light was back on, each time. I went in and they said that Ford was supposed to be working on a fix for it. Well...warranty expired and nary a thing accomplished.
So...how much does this code reader cost and the O2 sensors? I don't even know where they are, but am willing to change them myself and flip that light off. The truck runs fine and has for over 25000 miles with that #*&@## light glaring in my face. I certainly ain't going to pay Ford to fix something they should have fixed when it was under warranty.
It may be still covered by the emissions warranty even if the regular warranty has expired. Read your warranty. In states with smog checks you will fail just for having the light stay on or not having a working one. Depending upon model year, the Feds requre emissions systems to last up to 100,000 miles.
My '65 F250 only has two idiot lights, one for oil and one for the alternator. Neither one is on. However, in my Dad's '89 Olds the Check Engine and Brake lights have been on for probably a year, and it's still running fine. We borrowed a code reader from a mechanic friend of ours, looks like it's an egr valve, but since it runs fine Dad just decided to leave it.
O2 sensors..I was reading an article in "underhood service mag." at an alignment shop one day a few months back(I had my rotors turned after new brake pads). There was an article in there on a company that handled recycling catalytic converters. (brown recycling.com out of AL. wrote it on a scrap paper). There was a mention that a lot of O2 sensor problems resulting in early failure of cats was due to bad sensors, since it allows the vehicle to run rich, in turn clogging the cats prematurely. Now I also read that it is some times hard to figure out unless (you know how or you mechanic knows how) to check the sensor. (This is also visa versa in that the reader may say you have a bad sensor when you actually don't) And changing sensors when you don't need to can be expensive. It may have been the same mag. as mentioned above, that had the article on 'how to' run checks on the actual sensor.
whats an engine light, my truck only has 3 lights, oil, alt, and abs. it only has rear abs, but the light comes and goes constantly, has for about the past 10 years, abs has never worked since I bought the truck new, so i dont even think that abs even exists on this thing, everything else is done through gauges, and ears, hasnt failed me yet!
CK Eng Light comes on regularly after 30 minutes of hi-way driving, anything less and no light. 1st time happened about 52000, and pretty consistently ever since. Now have 178000. Have taken it to Ford dealerships in US, Germany, Holland and Belgium as well as a couple of independent shops. "No codes stored" Light stays on till I shut off engine, not On when I restart, even if restart immediately. Resume trip and 30 mins later, back on it comes. Replaced many of the "typical" causes, O2 sensors, EGR valve etc. Gave up 75000 mile ago. No noticeable impact on mileage and has passed 3 CA emissions tests (required every other year). Idiot lights suck.
Getting to be a big PIA, these lights. Seems like just another scam to get between us and our hard earned cash. Our state just enacted a law stating that you couldn't get an inspection sticker with a CEL on. Van runs like a clock, but have to invest at least $200 just to maybe get a waiver. Starting to jack my jaws...all this B.S.
Now I'm sitting hear reading electric theory trying to come up with a way to feed the central powertrain computer what it likes to hear. Scanner tells me the IAT voltage is too high. I think a couple of well placed 1 dollar resistors can fix that. They want 5 volts. I'll give them 5 volts. This is taking all the fun out of running a beater.
Yeah, mine is on for the oil pressure sending unit. I removed it to install an aftermarket oil pressure guage because there is a problem with my factory guage. it doesn't read harly any pressure at all and that just wasn't acceptable!
When you get the aftermarket guage that works off the actual oil pressure, get a T fitting, so you can hook them both up.
One for the real oil pressure, and one to keep the S.S. happy.
