A/C Problems

I am having a problem with my A/C.

Just out of the blue, last week, the air started going off and on(blow warm/cold/warm/cold) rather than just staying cold.

It doesn't matter if the switch is in Reg. or Max position.

It seems like the compressor is shutting down. In fact it is. I can tell because of the way the idle will cycle when it is on. It does not do that if it is blowing warm.

Anyone had any experience with this or something similar?

It's a 96 2.3 with a little over 140,000 miles. Belt is tight, no noise comming from compressor.

J.

You should check the system to be sure it is filled properly. If a system gets to low, it will cause the compressor to cycle on and off. There is a pressure switch in the system to monitor the freon level and regulate the compressor to keep it from burning up if the level is low. You can jump across the plug for this and check if the compressor stays on. The plug is a two wire type located in the area of the heater/AC unit on the passenger side under the hood, next to the firewall.

Yeah, try putting a can of freon in it. It uses 134A. $6 a can.
