The cruise fix is out. TSB #04-13-8
WDS update B31.11 This is for trucks built between 9/19/03 - 4/28/04 It will fix the cruise problems after a long decell.
Remember all flashes include all the flashes before it. in this case there is only one.
This flash also has inprovments for the electronic throtal control peddal. And some diagnistic improvents for us techs.
They did this flash to my truck when I had it in for the surging problem. And so far it is running great. Maybe even better than before I had the surging problems. I will see how she does this Friday on an 800 mile trip to Canada. Can we say vacation. YES YES YES YES.

My 04 goes in tomorrow to see about my surging issue, and they advised me of this new Flash that supossingly will fix it I beleive its an o4 motor, the truck build date is 1/21/04. I have 10k miles on it since 3/5/04 and I've been hesitant about getting any flash. truck runs great and gets good mpg but with in the past 2 weeks its surging when truck is under 2k rpm's. it will intermittantly surge causing the truck to launch forward or buck depending on my speed and also the other night and today while sitting in park idleing it sounded as if it was going to stall but then rpm's jumped back, did this a few times but of course not while at the dealer. I have posted this in a few other threads and have gotten several replys to what it may be including haveing to do the flash. While I was telling this to my service writer today his diesel tech was there and he said that he will check to see if I have any codes and will not flash unless I give the ok. He did say that this new flash however has been good and he has had no one come back and had a few people say there trucks had more power so I will have to deceide tomorrow to flash or not. Since my problem is intermittant and can go a few days with out occuring and sometime will happen a few times a day. I would hate to do the flash and that not be the problem. I hate to play the guessing game on whats wrong. Any opinions? what would you do in my situation? it seems like they are willing to work with me and I have mentioned some of the items that I've heard it could be but I guess it all depends on if that find and fault codes when the check tomorrow as to having any parts swapped,,, sorry for the long post , I wanted to make sure I was clear on everthing,, thanks matt
Matt - of all the issues - this one would be the one that concerned me the most --- say my wife was driving sitting at a light and had light brake pressure just enough to hold it... and the engine surged enough to push her out into the intersection and heaven forbid she was struck by someone !!!
This is safety related and EVERY states lemon laws give them ONE chance to fix this - then you are eligible for a lemon law ruling !
Be sure to document it and get them to write it properly on the service order...
My 03 6-oh Ex has been a CHAMP ! and just got my first blackstone back for my 25K mile oil change...
They say I could go another 4900 miles between oil changes - EVERYTHING was much better than the averages....
I always attributed the surging to an over sensative throttle, but after reading these posts and talking to the tech at Diablo today I'm gonna take it in and have my 04 reflashed--prod date 10/03, not sure of motor prod date--wondered if anyone with the predator had noticed that this condition somewhat seems to go away after installing any of the three programs. I thought mine had til I drove it earlier this evening and it's back so I'll take it in and post back tomorrow. I'm gonna update my predator too, just in case
I agree its a safety concern and want it taken care of but am trying to get assurance that the flash is the fix and not just a let try it and see. I had the truck since march 04 and put 10k miles on it already, truck runs great otherwise. I have a big smile evertime I drive it except when it acts up,, I guess what I'm getting at is that I hate fixing something that is not broken if you know what I mean. I appriciate all the suggestions I've received here and will be taken them with me to discuss the other possabilites of what this could be if they can not 100% insure me the flash is the fix.
I belive most techs would like to try the flash first. It's the easiest thing to do and no problem solving. Your truck may very well show no codes also. If thats the case ask them for a recorder box. This way you can drive the truck and when the problem happens again you can record it. My diesel tech found no codes. When he took the truck for a drive with me he found that there was a difinate problem. The next day he drove the truck with a recorder box. Traced the problem, ordered the parts, fixed the problem. = happy camper.

What did they find,,, your privious post only says they did a flash and truck ran great, Did you still have the surging issue after the flash? What parts where replaced? thanks,,,
Sorry. My truck was fluctuating in rpm's while accelerating. Surging/pulsating? They traced the problem to a faulty VGT sensor and a EBP sensor. The flash did not solve my problem. The replacement of the sensors is what solved my problem.
Good luck Matt1751. I know it stinks being without our trucks. Try to make friends while your there. You can get a lot more done when you make friends with the service department. I even wrote a letter today thanking the service writer and diesel tech that I talked with. This letter is going to the dealer owner , the dealer upper management and of course one to Sonya (service writer) and John (diesel tech). I believe my next time in they will welcome me. Hopefully I wont need to go back. But just in case I built a relationship with the main people doing the work for me.
