It has "monitors" such as for the EGR, O2s, EVAP systems etc. When the PCM finishes testing all the monitors it will erase the code.
You will get a P1000 if the battery has been disconnected, the PCM has been disconnected or if a problem has been fixed and a trouble code erased but it hasnt been driven enough to complete the monitors.
Usually just driving it some more will clear the code. You cant manually clear it.
