97 F-350 Running Light Problems
The light switch on my '97 F350 is not working right. I have replaced the switch and checked all the terminals inside the wirering cluster.
When I pull the **** half way out...NO parking or running lights come on. Pull it all the way, I do get headlights.
Now, if I push it in very slightly (wiggling it) I can get all the lights on. But I should be getting my park/running lights with the switch out half way, and all lights when out all the way, but it's not working that way.
So where is the connection problem??? Please help.
Thanks,
Are you absolutely sure that all the pins in the plug are not corroded & make proper, tight connections?
I got caught by this once before and it was the park lights too. I used a spade connector on the backside of the afflicted pin to shim it up so it would hold tight.
Hope this helps.
AL.
What he found was the tan/white wire feeding the lightswitch was melted somewhere between the switch and the fuse box. This wire is what feeds the running lights. You might want to check your fuses too. The headlights are fed from a different power wire(usually orange/black).
If your tan/white wire is dead, then pulling the switch out to some weird position will make the voltage jump inside the switch, feeding the running lights from a different circuit than normal. That is why they work sometimes if you mess with the switch.
