I'm helping a friend with a '97 f150 supercab xlt 4.6., we have to get it to pass a safety inspection. All the hard work is done but...
the brake indicator light in the dash stays on. I've searched the threads here and I understand that it only goes on with the park brake switch or the master cylinder fluid level sensor. Well I've disconnected both and the light is still on! What gives? The park break switch I can see just provides a ground when the pedal is depressed so disconnecting it should help figure out if it's bad. What about the switch in the brake fluid resevoir, should it be closed to cause the light to go on? If so disconnecting should make the light go out. So what keeps the dash indicator lit!?
I know my abs isn't working (tried stopping on ice) but I'm not seeing an abs light at all. Even when you first turn the key and most indicators light up before the engine starts. Is it possible that the park break light would indicate an abs problem?
On my 99 I had the same problem and disconnecting the low level sensor on the master cylinder will not make the light go out! I put a jumper wire on 2 of the terminals and it went right out. Not sure which 2 I connected but since there is only 3 it only takes a few minutes to try the different ones! Good luck!
