Here is a link to a site that did a mustang with a 428. It is called project FE there is five parts you have to go to each one individually but its cool. I would love to try and build a similar engine but with like a 390 or 416. I have been mapping out a 416 motor that im trying to get as close to 550 fwhp out of i just hope i dont do what they did......
You will notice that that 428 died due to oil starvation. I would not follow in their footsteps. Also, after that engine dies they took the rich man's easy way out and ordered a 460 crate engine.
I want to build a my motor to 7 to 8k, but no i dont want to follow in there footsteps it seems that they didnt research the oiling fixes on ratsmokers website..... Any ideas on what to do differently? i know i plan on running the crane rollercam i think its 521...... 607 on the exhaust side.
i noticed that ! many people have told me the key to a good fe motor is a good oiling system. any tips on how to up grade an fe's oiling system? the local speedshop told me to open up the oil ports in the back of my eddy heads, they said oil settles back there.
oil settles in all the FE heads its from the angle it sits at and the drain holes getting clogged. Atleast my OE heads did that. Thats why my truck burned alittle oil for a little while and had sludge in the corners.
i just copied the oil system mods from ratsmoker. i will deffinatly do them to my rebuild. i think my new creation is going to see 6500-7000 rpm's , especially with the nos. so i don't want to mess around with poor oil flow ! i'm pretty sure this motors going to be a screamer !! at least i know i'll have a 390 crank in this one !! want it done right , do it yourself !
yea just by the way the motor sits in the trucks it is tilted nose up a little.....just a hair..., ratsmoker has a slick motor though and on his site theres dyno's over 700fwhp so the fe can do it.I think he would know how to supply the oil if anyone would. I dont think ill be happy unless i see 7k+ lol
They didn't memtion the 427 as being a member of the FE family at all. They totally skipped it when listing all the FE combonations.
Also:
They just followed the standard HiPo FE recipe. The only difference from the standard HiPo build is the rods. And the only reason for that was the consistant high revs they planned on running.
