Update to my last post on 6/3/08

After my last post and out of total frustration with this product I removed the cover. Heath Copp, President of Peragon contacted me by telephone. We discussed my problems with the cover and I must say that Heath Copp was very responsive to my concerns. This company DID in fact stand behind the product, and this issue was able to be resolved to my complete satisfaction.

I don't know about Peragon tonneau covers, but I have had 2 soft vinyl snap covers installed on my truck and they both worked fine at keeping out water. Although there is a little water in the bed from time to time, I believe that it could come from around the toolbox. The reason for the 2 seperate covers are that I lost the tailgate rail of my SportMaster/ TonneauMaster cover and apparently they have went out of business, as they have not returned phone calls or emails in over 2 months. I just replaced my cover with a Berlin hinged cover, that snaps and also opens on a hinge about 8-10 inches back from my toolbox. This cover appears to be of an even higher quality than the SportMasters cover that I was perfectly fine with until I lost the tailgate rail. The added convenience of the hinged opening is fantastic though and the total cost of the custom sized cover was $250.00 including shipping was more than worth the money. The product arrived at my home in 2 days (UPS). The cover installed in approx 20 minutes with only a 3/8" & 7/16" sockets. The only improvement I could suggest is clearer installation instructions. I had no problem with the installation, as I had already previously installed a similar cover, but a novice might get a tad confused. I don't work for the company, but thought everyone should know about a product that seems to work great and won't break your budget. I bought the cover through Ebay and the seller was very helpful, knowledgeable, and made sure we had all the correct measurements before completing the order.

I've had the cover on now for almost 2 years. It's coming off,
never to be installed again. I would not buy another one and I
would not recommend it to anyone.

I bought one of these because on paper they sounded great. What I got was a unit that would not close properly, I unit that some of the parts would not fit together to make it flush with the truck without hours of me messing with it. The lock never worked as it would not rotate fully to catch under the side lip of my bed. The aluminum faded after about a year and it looks dull and gray. The caster wheels that rolls down the side rails broke off within month's at the rivit point. I emailed the company and they would only email me back, I could never talk to a person via phone, they would always say they would call me back but never would. DON"T BUY THIS, DON"T BUY THIS!!!! I don't care what the owner says in another thread this thing is garbage.

The childish manner is which peragon has responded to the posts on this forum here has deterred me from purchasing their product. Mocking an unhappy customer is no way to get repeat business. After researching the customers who are happy with them they all tout the functionality which can be had from ANY retracting bed cover not the specific product itself. Now that the other companies have addressed issues like leaking with drain tubes etc and can be purchased for only 100$ more than this product shipped I believe my money will be better spent there. If anyone is curious the Pace Edwards roll top can be had from real truck for only 688 shipped and seems to not have near as many bad reviews online. I am not promoting them just presenting them as my choice over this company after witnessing what I would consider poor service and disrespect for a customer.

Quotes:
"If you're one of the people who are unhappy with the Peragon cover, and want to tell someone other than your wife, you might want to write to the Attorney General in North Dakota (Consumer Protection) they would be happy to hear what you have to say. "

Peragon's response:
"If you're one of the thousands of people who are happy with the Peragon cover, and want to tell someone other than your wife, please visit the Peragon web site (Peragon Retractable Truck Bed Covers: Aluminum, Powder Coated, Key Locking, All-Weather, Quality Truck Bed Tonneau Cover) and drop us a line. We enjoy hearing from the many customers who love our product. We get those emails every day."

If you were a little more professional I probably would have tried your product. Even if you watch their videos from employees on their site they are staring off into no where that's what made me look for reviews to start off with. If they can't look a camera in the eye how can they talk to a person face to face maybe I'm just old school.

My name is Heath Copp and I'm president and co-founder of Peragon. We've been manufacturing our retractable aluminum truck bed cover for 12 years. I’ll be honest - we’ve made mistakes. We cut too many corners to lower costs. We didn’t give our customers the level of support they deserved. We didn’t respond to criticism by making changes - instead we were defensive. I've been at the helm since the beginning, so these failures were my responsibility and I apologize for them.

At the beginning of 2008, I began putting every resource we had into an effort to significantly improve our product and support. Over the next three years we launched a number of incremental improvements, while in the background we developed a comprehensive redesign.

This new design first shipped on February 28th of this year. Our third-generation Peragon cover is an exponential leap in quality. We’ve rethought and retooled everything from the ball bearings to the packaging.

We’ve also given our support team better tools to serve you without hiding behind policies. For example, we’ve removed the restocking fee from our return policy. If our cover does not meet your expectations, we’ll refund your entire purchase price - including the original shipping. You'll only be out the return shipping.

If you research Peragon, you will find older reviews that are critical of our product - often with good reason. That was then. If you check the dates, you'll see newer comments show we're now doing something right.

To our past customers, please contact our support team at (877) 473-7246 ext. 2 for solutions that will improve your experience with our product. We’re committed to building a great reputation going forward, one customer at a time.

If anyone has questions, comments or concerns, I'll be happy to continue participating in this thread.

That said, what kind of a deal can we buyers of your "inferior" product expect to see for doing your research for you? I was one that got taken.... a few years into that cover, every single roller bearing is rusted so badly, I can hardly open and close the thing. It leaks like a screen.....The paint has chipped and looks like I never put polish on it when in fact I labored on that thing to TRY to make it look somewhat like a shine..... to no avail.

Now Mr. Copp, put your money where your mouth is.......

Bud -

I apologize for the negative experience you've had with our product. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to make it right.

To address the shortcomings you've seen in our previous design:
  • The roller bearings we used before were plain steel bearings from China. Our new generation cover has nickel plated bearings to prevent corrosion - and they are made in the U.S. These new bearings also have an outer wheel on them similar to an inline skate. The result is silk smooth operation.
  • We've redesigned the seal between the panels. The previous seal was a simple "D" shape. The new seal has a more precise geometry that molds to the panels to reduce possible leak paths. Also, the rubber compound we spec for the seal is now a higher grade that holds its shape better over time. Our cover is still not waterproof, which we're up front about on our web site, but it is much improved over our previous design.
  • At one time we used a different type of powder coating. However, some of our customers reported problems with it becoming dull and coming off, so we switched. The powder coating we are using now is the same finish we have used for the last several years with no issues - it holds a nice satin gloss appearance.
There are many other changes that make our cover easier to use and more durable. From new molded rubber end caps on our rails to redesigned quick release hardware, we've improved everything.

You're right, our past customers deserve more than a simple apology. We've been extending our warranty to take care of customers who have our previous design. Depending on the situation, we'll provide replacement parts for either little or no cost. Many of our improvements were designed so they could be retrofitted. For example, the new seal that goes between the panels can be installed on our previous design. If one of our customers is interested in a complete upgrade, we offer them a discounted price for a new cover.

What would it take for you to feel like you've been treated well?

Did you also upgrade the supports for the cover? I had to have my son MODIFY your supports so they would not bend down because of the weight of the cover. He welded on a brace between the open L legs which then prevented sag.

If all these problems you previously had are resolved, I would be tempted to retry your cover at a 50% discount from your presently listed price of $599.00 including shipping. I would also agree to post here in this forum the results of the installation, service (if needed) and a true evaluation of your product.

If you look back in this forum, I really liked your cover ( and said so) as it was supposed to perform, but as time went by, the faults turned into dislike. I thought the original pricing was right IF the cover worked as it was designed to, but even then I touted it because I thought if the problems could be corrected (even by the user) it would have been a GREAT rolling bed cover!

What really turned me off was the lack of support. I called the support line ONCE - that was during installation. I got a call back the FOLLOWING DAY! Doesn't help much when you have all the parts spread out all over the front lawn. I never called again.

I still have this cover on my truck...It ain't pretty, but by tugging and pushing, it does actually roll in and out! As I am 72 years old, that's a LOT of tugging and pushing.

Sorry for the very long and testy post, but you asked.... and I really appreciate you coming in here and "taking your lumps".

Yes, we have redesigned the mounting to be quite a bit more robust. We now mount up higher using 1/4" drilled holes through the inside bed lip. The previous design used existing factory holes farther down on the side of the stake pockets. That allowed for a no-drill installation, but the distance our mounting brackets had to span didn't provide solid support. We've also switched to grade 5 bolts and nylock nuts everywhere. I think you'd be happy with how stable the mounting is now.

We heard many times from our customers: "I love your concept, but..." and they'd mention some area where our design was weak, just as you have. This new generation Peragon cover is our response to every "but..."

At one time, our support left a lot to be desired. I didn't place the importance on that part of our business that I should have. I learned. Starting in the fall of 2009 we began making significant changes to increase the quality of our support. We hear almost daily now from customers raving about how good our support is. Creating that experience for every customer is now our top priority. We have a lot of fun exceeding our customers' expectations.

It is very important to me to once again have you as a satisfied Peragon customer and I'd appreciate your review of our new design posted to this forum. As an investment toward that end, I'll agree to a 50% discount - for a total of $299.50 on your doorstep. If you're not impressed with your new Peragon truck bed cover, we'll refund the full $299.50.

"Taking my lumps" is what I'm here for. My goal is to take care of our existing customers and begin building a reputation on this forum for a great product with amazing support at a compelling price.

Thank you! I appreciate your willingness to give us another shot. Once your new cover arrives, we'll be here to help if you need anything. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on our new design. You'll see quite a few changes from the cover you received six years ago.
