When I got my Explorer a month ago, the keypad (on the driver door)was intermittantly working, then went to working all the time, now it doesnt work at all. I can't seem to find anything wrong. Is there a way to "reset" the system. Ayone got any ideas? Thanks
The only way I know of to reset the system is to disconnect the battery for say an hour or so then re connect it. Only problem with doing this is the code that you have for the system might not be the factory default. It might be one that was programmed by the previous owner...in that case, it might be lost when power is cut. What you'll then have to do is get the oem code off the computer. This is found on the front of the RAP module that controls the anti theft system. Pull off the cover on the drivers side wall in the cargo area (where the jack is) The RAP module is up in the upper right hand corner. Use this code, if that doesn't work, you have another problem with the system.
I do know the original code, havent tried to disconnect the battery myself, but i think it was done last week while in the shop so i will try that, but i really dont think thats it....
When I rewired the front speakers I put in my X, I found out what that big black cylinder type thing was that was in the door jam. I had wanted to pass the speaker wire through it but couldn't. There are many wires that go though it, it's like a distrubution box. When I may playing with it, I must have loosened some wire becuase I lost all power features to the driver's door, including the keypad. Before I was all done, I got it back together and working. It's been fine since, about a couple months.
My point ---> check to see if any of the wires might be loose in this distribution box. That might be why this problem is intermittent.
