I was curious as to how I should mount the 4 bar link system. I have it set up for bags but wanted to know if I should run them on the inside or outside of the rails. I was figuring on the inside as it would be cleaner but I was also wondering how the links connect to the frame. Anyone got an idea as to what I am talking about?
I see the part about being installed on the outside. I guess the other part of my question is how do I weld the stretched V to the frame? Do I cut the frame to accomodate the V or do I cut the V to accomodate the frame? I hope that helps. I really appreciate all the help and patience.
Thanks alot. I am one of those that probably wouldnt have found that on my own. Anyhow I bought my stuff from scotts hot rods and well their instructions are very vague and not what I want to go off of. I would much rather get instructions on how to intall things on my frame not on a general basis. Also how did the triangulated system work out? I wanted that system first but I kinda let the guy talk me out of it when he gave me a deal on the stuff I got. Thanks again
Well, it LOOKS good. I had to design a special front bracket to mount the lower bar. You can see the picture in my gallery. Besides, 'everybody' uses parallel 4 bar, cause its 'easy'. I wanted something different.
Now that my kids are out of the house, and their cars (66 chevy truck and 87 stang) aren't sucking up cash, maybe I can get BACK to my toy! New house, detached 3 bay garage, hot water and a sink!!
cab just came off the frame (only took 4 years!!) changed engines from 302 to 460 (used the 302/aod on the stang, converted from 4 cyl).
all this should set the running boards about 1 inch off the ground in the down position..
1low50,
I just tack welded my front 4-bar brackets to the outside of my frame. It didn't require any cutting of anything. The "stretched V" just layed flat on the frame rail and I tacked it down.
I bought my 4-bar from H & H Speed and Machine. It's very good quality and was very cheap. I'm planning on putting the shocks on the outside of the frame and the airbags on the inside. I'm not using "shockwaves" so I have to split them up.
Well after I did some research from the info I got I also decided to take a measurement of the bars that I have. Those bars are 25" without counting the rod ends. If I was to install those bars I would have to relocate the last hanger for my running board. This was not going to work for me so I called scotts today and they said they will ship me out a set of 20" bars. This should not have happened since they should have known what I was working with. When I went to the shop I saw a 48-50 F-1 in the shop. I dont know but hopefully this will fix the other problems. Anyhow thanks for all the advice and now I think I know where everything will be placed.
