I have 1990 E-150, 5.0 (302) Van with double gas tank. Recently I had aproblem with the rear gas tank and took it to a mechanic who found out my fuel pump was ok but the electrical connector next to gas tank was burned out. He replaced the connector and I filled the gas tank sand start driving. Seems normal but then suddenly my fuel gage went all the way up and uppp and at the same time my temprature gage went up and upp (scary) too. within a minute it both gages start going down and became normal. I keep driving and it does this strange thing time to time. I dont think motor is heating up but beleive something wrong with gages or electrical. Please help me to save some on diagnose this problem, what this could be?
Many Thank to any one who replies.

Reason: Title correction
When the electrical connector is unplugged at the sender, the fuel guage will read past the full mark with the ignition turned on. If you probe the connector to find which lead has 12v (+), then jumper the other lead (-) to ground, the guage should swing past empty.
Having the temp. guage included in your problem would suggest to me that both guages may share a common ground wire or circuit???
This might be a good time to buy a service manual for your truck.
Let's see what the other guys think.

P.S. Welcome to FTE!
I was checking around and some people told me that it also could be a voltage regulator problem or a grounding problem.
Is there an easier way to test this without taking fuel tank down? I am not sure that fuel tank connector, inside the tank or somewhere easier cause I dont want take tank down again.

You may be able to reach the connector without taking the tank down. It's outside & on top of the tank. There's not much space to get your hands in though. Perhaps just loosening the tank straps some will give you enough space.
The voltage regulator idea has some merit. You really should get a service manual before throwing electrical parts at it.
You could check the instrument cluster ground just to say you did & eliminate that.
