A friend needs a new 4.0l engine in a 97 ranger. I have agreed to do the deed for him and I was wondering if anyone has any advice with rebuilt engines. He is looking for a quality engine and price is not as important as quality. So whats best Ford, Jasper, etc?
Dave
I will be doing it all myself. I am looking for a long block. It lost a rod at 187K miles and broke the crank, knocked a hole in the block and banged up a head pretty bad. I will also be putting in a rebuilt 5 speed, clutch, and anything else it needs. He loves the darn truck and wants it Fixed. So I told he I will do the labor if he buys the parts.

Well, got er done!.. Found a new 4.0L on Ebay (some sort of ford excess thing), put in a rebuild transmission, u joints, clutch, pressure plate, had the flywheel refaced, clutch cylinder, front brakes, wheel bearings and rotors turned. Runs like a top and he is very happy with it. Someone hand me a beer.

Congrats on accomplishing that big job! Have one on me!
Any issues you ran into that might not be so obvious just thinking about it?
