Put in new cd player worked fine before install...installed everything back together...nothing....checked fuse panel...ok....Is it safe to run hot wire from battery to cd player? Seems like I checked everything...Dont have owner manual for it...1991 explorer. Any help? Thanks.
That's not a good idea. What do you mean the the cd player worked fine before the install? Did you have it in another vehicle and now it doesn't work in this one? Is this an aftermarket cd player? Did you check the fuses in the power wire and ignition controlled power wire for the cd player? Need more info to help you out better.
Its safe to run the yellow (constant in MOST cases) to the battery, in fact, on some decks it is required. The only wire i absolutely say you MUST run yourself in a aftermarket install is the ground. Always choose your own ground as far way from other items groundpoint as possible.
Often wiring harnesses will group grounds to a common point and aftermarket deck will pick up that noise.
Often these stock grounds fail, and it goes unnoticed until the deck is removed. At which time, the individual removes the antenna which takes away the only working ground.....and loses a deck.
First thing to check are the 2 fuses for power. Yhere is a radio fuse inside (ignition power), and either a radio fuse under the hood or a cigarette fuse inside (12 volt constant for radio). If either are blown, no radio.
