Interstate driving advice -

Be aware of your limits - caffiene and "whites" only get you so far. If things begin to get wierd, or you find yourself yawning - PULL OFF!

(At least for a while)

The next bend in the road is not as important as your life (or someone elses)

DON'T pile stuff around your feet in your vehicle. It may sound convenient, until you don't miss the backend of the truck in front of you. (Wife used to do that)

Rest Areas are in place for a reason. Never pass one.
In the first place, the highway department of the state you are in figured (based on statistics) that you NEED IT right then.

-In the second place, for all you know the only place to poop or pee for the next 500 miles is behind a bush, while RV owners see you and laugh...

By the way - keep extra toilet paper.

Canned stuff and a way to heat it is good to have. Sterno can be a blessing.....

If you don't have a map, you don't know where you are going.

If you can't read a map - "You're kidding me, aren't you?"
Trust me; It's a skill that grows with practice.

Be prepared for frustration. You will drive long distances without any hassles. But when you get near ANY city - the hassles return.

LOCAL DRIVERS SUCK! Some localities worse than others... Get used to it, the truckers do - and they drive for a living.

Be prepared to learn from others! You DON'T have to be a jerk to survive.... Being a cool person works ten times better. Watch the truckers, and learn from them.

Interstate driving advice -

Some good advice. My family and a I are planing to drive from California to Colorado Springs this summer. I have alreay decided to take my time and take a look. When I drive long distances I like to try to make good time. For me this is the part of the trip I enjoy.(Man, do we have to stop for gas again!) But I want my family to enjoy themselves too. So we will make more stops and look at the local sights.
