Rest Areas are in place for a reason. Never pass one.
In the first place, the highway department of the state you are in figured (based on statistics) that you NEED IT right then.
-In the second place, for all you know the only place to poop or pee for the next 500 miles is behind a bush, while RV owners see you and laugh...
By the way - keep extra toilet paper.
Canned stuff and a way to heat it is good to have. Sterno can be a blessing.....
If you don't have a map, you don't know where you are going.
If you can't read a map - "You're kidding me, aren't you?"
Trust me; It's a skill that grows with practice.
Be prepared for frustration. You will drive long distances without any hassles. But when you get near ANY city - the hassles return.
LOCAL DRIVERS SUCK! Some localities worse than others... Get used to it, the truckers do - and they drive for a living.
Be prepared to learn from others! You DON'T have to be a jerk to survive.... Being a cool person works ten times better. Watch the truckers, and learn from them.
Some good advice. My family and a I are planing to drive from California to Colorado Springs this summer. I have alreay decided to take my time and take a look. When I drive long distances I like to try to make good time. For me this is the part of the trip I enjoy.(Man, do we have to stop for gas again!) But I want my family to enjoy themselves too. So we will make more stops and look at the local sights.
