Have a holley 4160 with vacuum. When setting the idle mixture screws, should the vacuum hose from the distributer to the carb be connected or disconnected? When I put the truck in drive, the idle drops and almost stalls.
Thanks.
PS trying to adjust before night time
First, make sure that the vacuum adv. is hooked up to the port on the passenger side of the carb about 1/2 way up the metering block near the choke.
It shouldn't matter when adjusting the mixture screws if it is hooked up or not.
If it is hooked up to direct vacuum (which is wrong), then when you put it in gear, the vacuum drops and it will retard the timing, causing a bad idle in gear.
NO, this is usually cause by having the throttle plate open too far at an idle. You may need to lower the idle and advance the timing to get the idle speed back up.
