From what I have seen, besides being made in two different plants, there are differences in the timing chain componants and possibly the crank snout for the flywheel/flexplate. There may be more, but I am not sure.
Romeo has 6-bolt crank, Windsor is 8. Windsor has larger timing cover bolts, the valve covers are different, and the cam gears are press on, rather than bolt on as on the Romeo engines. Also the camshafts have individual caps, as opposed to girdle style caps on the Romeo's.
So--- is there a general opinion as to which engine is more durable and overall stronger? I just went out and checked my vin and found a W. Am I happy or am I sad?
According to the article, one is not better than the other. The biggest difference is in the thrust bearing design of the crank.
The professional Mod performance engine builder says that they are both about equal.
