I have a 1997 F-150 with a 4.2 and a manual tranny. I was wondering what major problems are, have changed timing seal. I have 71k on the truck and have changed fluids regugarly. I have a problem when I first start it and it will sometimes cut off when braking in neutral at end of street. Anyone have any suggestions?
not another 97 4.2 --but on the other end !! Well anywats welcome to FTE, i hope you stay and become a "regular". Anyways with the 97 and 98 models of the 4.2L F-150 the lower intake gaskets are very "famous" or whatever for blowing, then causing your engine to blow, which equals about 5000 bux roughly. The gaskets are newhere from 500-700 to replace so you definetly need to find out if they have been replaced or not, if they have you are set! So call back to the person/dealer where you bought it from and see if they can find out, if they can't, and you can't--take it in to a body shop and ask them if they can tell! Joey, Strick, Brian, Tom--He would love the advice, I tried my best, mine is a breifing though
Dang, I know what ur problem is but cant think of the name of the part.....Its inexpensive and easy to fix, Im gonna research and get back to u, maybe by then someone else will know the name of it.......just hold on!!!
