Hi my name is patrick and i was wondering if anyone out there knows how to make a homemade flame thrower for my 85 ford pickup. if anyone knows how it would be greatly appreciated thanx my email is patrick_mustang68@hotmail.com
I have been wanting to put a kit on my truck too, i think this may work as far as wiring goes-

Coil---------Spark Plug

I have heard something about not having enough fuel in the exaust, so im not sure if it would ignite, and this is my own drawing off of what i have seen for more advanced kits, like autoloc has. i am going to pull a coil from the j/y soon, and try it out, i will let you know how it goes. Im no electritian, just using basic theries here, so we will see.
I tred the monster garage bit and it wouldn't work, good flame till i started the truck, get a huge flame when it fired then once the air was out of the pipe and it was just exaust it went out.
That was positive to coil, then on the negative side i had a condenser, and signal flasher, one side of the flasher goes to ground and the other side goes to the coil (-) terminal along with the condenser.
Little capacitor used in the Pionts and condenser system from the older fords, chryslers etc. I pulled one off a distributor from a Lada Niva. And yes the condenser is neede to get a strong spark. Oh and get a Heavy Duty Flasher, one that handles 12 or more lights.
I made one for my 78 F150 last year. The electronics are fairly simple, but getting exhaust to combust isn't. Especially on newer engines with all the emissions stuff.
On my truck, I used the manual choke and basically flooded the engine to get enough fuel into the exhaust. DO NOT DO THIS! It's a great way to quickly destroy your engine. Until I complete my research on fuel injection or propane injection, my system has been removed.
That's the kind of kit you don't want. That cuts out the engine plugs to flush raw fuel down the cylinders. That leads to gas in the oil and burnt valves. It's basic concept is similar to turning off the ignition, pumping the gas and turning the ignition back on. Not a good idea.
I know a bit about flamin' exhaust. Make shure you don't have any rather big leaks in your exhaust pipe. If there is, air from the outside will inter the pipe. We all know that to make fire, you need air. If there is air in your pipe and a supply of fuel coming from the engine. The flame will travel up your pipe, cumbusting any colected gas in a glaspack or resinator.
Also I know you can't have the type of flamin' exhaust were raw unburnt gas comes from the engine if you have catalic converters, or mufflers. Catalic converters are made to catch all the bad stuff that the Feds don't want in our air. Mufflers will just collect the unburnt gas. And when you go to hit the flamin' exhaust button, you will have quite the fire cracker under your truck.
A good flame system will have a WOT switch on the carb for safety. That will keep the system from firing until you're at Wide Open Throttle. With the velocity of the exhaust at WOT, it's dang near impossible for the flames to travel backwards.
As I said before, the worst part of using unburnt fuel from the engine is that you have to flood the cylinders to get enough back there to ignite. That's just askin' for engine trouble.
